I wanted to take a minute to say hello and let you know how much I enjoyed reading your new book.
How true it is! (And I thought I was the only one who had committees that want to “help” a little too much. Ha!) I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, your book is very timely, and it’s nice to know I that I’m not the only one to experience the occasional frustration in the world of private clubs.
At the end of the month. I will have completed six years as General Manager. Despite the occasional “issues,” I DO love this club and the club management business!
Thanks again. My family got a big grin and so did I.
Have a great Christmas!
All the best,
I want you to know that I simply could not put down your excellent book! It was extremely interesting – and several times I found myself laughing out loud. I am going to buy copies for several of my friends for Christmas.
I am very much enjoying your new book. Prior to this year, I would have had a hard time relating to your good Life Lesson Number One. Up until this time I have had the pleasure of working for some of the most honorable people and never had any issues whatsoever. I guess I was naïve to believe that if you work hard and live a life of integrity everything will always be fine.
This year has surely been the most challenging time in my professional career. I am dealing with a scenario very similar to the one you describe in Chapter 1. I am a passionate leader and have surrounded myself with passionate and talented department heads. Even though my morale is low I will not let them down and continue to serve to the best of my ability. I am learning to deal with the situation but it is very difficult. A lot of prayer, meditation and running have been a major focus in my life. Just reading your book and knowing I am not the only person that has had to deal with this type of situation has been a tremendous help.
Thanks for all you do for our profession!
By the way, his name is Tom. For real.
I found this book about your life and work experience
extremely interesting. I especially enjoyed reading about your Chinese restaurant episode,
the trip you and Cody took on The World (what a ship!), the fine private clubs you managed, and the ups and downs you’ve had with a few of your bosses. That
just shows that, no matter how great a job someone is doing there are always some knuckleheads in this world.
